A different kind of journey

I started blogging as some kind of journal to my nearest and dearest, for them to be able to know what I was doing when around and about in the big world. Never really thought much about it, but I quickly realized that I enjoyed it. Anyone who knows me also knows that I take no greater joy than in the sound of my own voice. Many a time have I been told to shove a sock in it, many a time did I continue my endless monologue to no one’s pleasure than my own. So, now I kind of let my endless blabbering enter the digital age, and thus, entering an era of democracy. Because if you don´t care about what I have to say, you are more than welcome to stop reading.

Happy Easter! A week of reflections.

So, I’m back in ze fatherland(or motherland, more like it). After 10 hours on two different flights (on one where the pilot said the somewhat unexpected words ”The turbulence is now over and we are hitting clearer skies. If you look out to you right hand side you can see the mountains of Afghanistan.” I saw the mountains of Afghanistan, pretty cool if you ask me) I landed in London and took the Metro to Mile End to meet my friend C. Pretty tired but a few beers and a good conversations easily made it worth the train ride and getting out of the airport. Next morning SAS took me home, landing med safely in Goteborg. I had arranged a pick-up by my brother, and we went home to my small apartment, which we now share for some time ahead. Even though its crowded its a good deal since I’m totally out of money. But that was seven days ago. Now I got some time to think my journey through, and reflect on all the things I did. I was only away for two months, but it feels like I managed to squeeze in a whole lot of activity. So what did I do?

And so, the end is near…

Phew, the last few weeks that I spent here has been really exhausting, but  lots of fun. As I told you guys last time I came back from Everest in one piece. Thinking that this would grant med the luxury of maybe resting for a few days turned out to be hoping for a bit to much. Only a few hours after I arrived in Kathmandu I met two really nice Swedish guys, A and J. They convinced me to join them for a bungee-jump the next day. That would have been nice and all if it wasn’t for the fact that the jump is the second highest in the world, a staggering 160 meters down a mountain gorge. 160 meters is pretty high. Trying (and actually succeeding) to ignore what I was about to do I even ate a pretty big lunch only about 45 minutes before I was supposed to jump. When there was about 4 of us left, I started to get nervous. Läs vidare »

So, bits and pieces of Everest…

Howdy!
Back again in the buzzling area of Thamel in Crapmandhu. Actually feels really good. Staying in the same place as last time, feels pretty OK. Something that felt f*****g awesome though was having the first shower in 14 days. Man, used about half a bottle of shower cream. It was bad, they almost had to send in some Japanese catastrophe-workers in radioactive proof gear to clean that mess up. And I am feeling really bad for the guy taking care of my laundry. Those socks doesn’t smell like a summer morning…

In Namche, heading up.

I am in the Sherpa Capital of Namche Bazaar, the main port to this part of the Himalayas. Two fairly easy days of trekking got me here, and since I’ve spent one day to acclimatise I will head of to continue towards Base Camp tomorrow. All is well so far, will probably be back in Namche in 7-14 days if all goes well. Really expensive internet rates up here, so again, short message. Only to say I am alright and thinking of all of you I love back home. Carrying you with me where ever I go. See you all soon.

Off to Everest!

Just a really short post this time. It’s about 22.00 o’clock and I’m leaving for the airport tomorrow at about 06.00. From there I will fly to Lukla, a small airstrip in the mountains to start a 14 day trekk, which will hopefully lead me to Mount Everest Base Camp at 5360 metres above the sea. I will sleep in lodges along the way, but still my backpack is fully cramped with stuff and really heavy. Don’t understand why, but I can’t figure out what I should leave. Hm, it will be a hard walk up there… After two days I will reach Namche Bazaar, the central hub of the area and there they have loads of hotels, restaurants and internetcaf’es, so maby you will hear from me again when I get there. Otherwise, it should not take me more than three weeks to get back. So, if I make it you will hear from me in 14-21 days. See you all. And again, thanks for all the feedback.

I’m in Nepal, what the fuck can I say?

Awesome. Arrived at Kathmandu airport two days ago at Monday afternoon after leaving my guest-house in Bangkok at 0400 hours in the morning. Went to the weekend market in Bangkok on Sunday, and I must say it was really really good. I thought it was going to be a bunch of crap just as it is around Koh San Road. But, if you ever go to Bangkok on a weekend, be sure to give JJ Market at least half a day. I tried to do a quick count and there is around 12.000 small stalls selling everything saleable in this world of ours. Spent most of my time around the clothes, and there is literally thousands of vendors selling their own designer brands, vintage clothes, imported whatever, and its nothing short of brilliant. Actually made me like Bangkok a lot more.

Back in Hell.

So, came back to Bangkok yesterday. Apparently there is some kind of holiday because there’s pretty hard to get at room and the traffic is absolutely packed (riding around on the back of the motorcycle taxi again gave me a pretty good look on this first hand). Slept for way to long, but since I feel very sorry for myself having a fucking ear infection that is alright. Started my week long session (so far) of self pity last Friday as I started to feel a bit sick, sleeping like 14 hours or so. Got a bit of a cold, so as I wanted some more diving done I went to the local clinic. No joke, the doctor I meet didn’t look a day older than 9 (braces not helping). So it felt a bit like joke. Although, she was very nice and professional. “Soar throat? Here’s some antibiotics”. So I was on that for about five days, hoping they would wipe away what ever it was I got. Booked an Advanced Course with the same shop and instructor, really looking forward to the night dive and the deep dive (30m) the most. The same day I start my course my ear starts to fuck about. Haven’t had a ear infection since I was, I don’t know… Seven? Until now that is. Went to see the kid-doctor again. This time she had a nurse that spoke English like she was born in New York, but she claimed she was autodidact, only watching movies. Fair Play. This time she looked into my ear with and gave me the “Oh”. Never want to hear hat from a doctor, even if she’s only nine. “Very swollen. No diving for you. Take ear drops”. Thanks Doc. So that was it. The Advanced only being extras, it in no way has effected my experience or goals quitting, but it was a bit of a bummer. So, on ear drops and painkillers I wandered of to my Dorm.
